Being diagnosed with cancer changes your life from the way you look and feel, to the role you play in your family and at work. At Sacramento Center for Hematology and Medical Oncology, we understand people with cancer face a wide range of physical, emotional and socioeconomic challenges. We are here to help you face those challenges with the comprehensive care you need, including complete clinical care and a full array of education and support services.
Advances in cancer care have made many treatments more effective and less debilitating. However, people living with cancer often don't have as much energy as they did before the cancer. Some days are better than others, and it's important that you are honest with your friends, family and co-workers about how you're feeling. Plan to rest on the days when you feel most tired, and stay active on the days you have more energy.
You may also experience other changes, such as loss of hair, scars from surgery, or changes in weight. Many of these changes will go away once your treatment is over, and there are many services available to help cope with these changes. For example, you may want to cover your head with a wig or scarf, have reconstructive surgery, or be fitted for a prosthetic device.
Whatever your diagnosis, it's important to remember that you are special for who you are. And we are here to help you.
